In DirectIQ, all contacts are assigned to either an Active or Passive status. Active means that the email address associated with the contact is considered valid, and it will be used during delivery attempts.
Contacts marked as passive are kept for reference but are not otherwise used during email campaigns. Passive status is automatically assigned under the following conditions:
- Opt-Out: When a contact unsubscribes from your mailing list. See also Reviewing Your Unsubscribed Contacts.
- Double Opt-In: If you have double opt-in selected in your Welcome Responder settings, initial contacts will be marked as Passive until the new subscribers click the Opt-In link in the Welcome Responder message sent to them.
- Invalid Address: If a sent email is returned as undeliverable due to an incorrect or invalid address, it will appear in the Hard Bounce report and the contact will marked as Passive. If this is due to a temporary situation, the contact can be re-activated in the Contact Details page. See also:
- Spam Complaint: If a contact is marked as spam via DirectIQs spam filters, it will be marked as Passive. If this is due to a temporary situation, the contact can be re-activated in the Contact Details page. See also Reviewing Spam Complaints by Contacts.
You can also use Switch to Passive to manually prevent a contact from sending email in the Contact Details page, and remove passive contacts from your lists altogether using the Sanitize function in My Lists.
