In DirectIQ, all contacts are assigned to either an Active or Passive status. Active means that the email address associated with the contact is considered valid, and it will be used during delivery attempts.
Contacts marked as passive are kept for reference but are not otherwise used during email campaigns. Passive status is automatically assigned under the following conditions:
- When a contact unsubscribes from a mailing list.
- An email from the contact is returned as invalid.
- When a contact marks your message as 'spam'.
You can also use Switch to Passive to manually prevent a contact from sending email in the Contact Details page,
and remove passive contacts from your lists altogether using the Sanitize function in My Lists.
